The Decadent Art movement …
Ascha was first inspired so many years ago by this art and literary movement born out of revolt against the institutional art world during the 1900’s, and thought that one day she would call her art brand ‘Decadent Prints’.
The artist, Felician Rops was instrumental in the development of the movement during it’s early stages, and it included others such as Oscar Wilde, Aubrey Beardsley and Gustav Klimt. The Decadent Movement was about excess artificiality and aesthetic beauty and poetry rather than socio political context.
Many years passed by since Ascha’s idea of her art brand during which she spent two years in the dark room doing her Foundation degree in photography, and then went on to study fine art in painting, and came away with new ideas, but ‘Decadent Print’s was never forgotten though her work has somewhat evolved, the philosophy is still the same, drawing inspiration from the aesthetic principles and self-indulgent narratives of the Decadent era.
“Lying, the telling of untrue beautiful things, is the proper aim of art.”
Oscar Wilde
